Reading of Acts 23:12-35

The reading for today is Acts 23:12-35 (Read in your own Bible or the ESV translation link here).

Read slowly and look for 1 or 2 things that really stand out from this text. Meditate on those truths.

What stands out to you in this passage of Scripture?

  1. 2 things stand out to me:
    1. Religion made the Jews crazy! They were so zealous FOR their law that they wanted to put to death somebody that they thought was breaking their law…though they broke their own law by planning to murder (6th commandment…pretty obvious one). Honestly. CRAZY.
    2. God’s sovereign hand was over Paul. God had a plan for Paul. He had every day of Paul’s life written in His books (and he has every day of our life written in His books as well – Psalm 139:16). Even though humans may plan evil, God is still in control. God’s hand of protection was over Paul and he was delivered out of the hands of evil men. We can be thankful that if not even a sparrow will fall to the ground apart from the Father’s will, we who are valued more than sparrows are under our Father’s care and sovereign plan (Matthew 10:29-31). Those who are in Christ can trust that in all things He works for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28)! Suffering or not, we can be sure, HIS PLAN IS GOOD.
