July's Focus: Communing with Jesus in the Gospel of John

Sitting in a theology class in seminary, I remember thinking, “Wow. This Jesus is amazing. Do I know this Jesus?" As Dr. Metzger was speaking my heart was captured for the One who created the earth and sky, the One who was a mighty warrior and gentle servant, the One who would humble Himself and break the letter of the law to fulfill the spirit of the law: TO LOVE....to touch and heal a leper. This Lord? He was more beautiful than I could imagine.

Jesus. He is the one who is more glorious than any other. I think we do not always recognize Him as such. He takes His place in our hearts with the other heroes we are captured by whether they are sport’s stars, scientists, artists or celebrities. We all stand in awe of something, but is that something worthy of our worship?

Charles Spurgeon once said “he who does not long to know more of Christ, knows nothing of him yet.” Do you long to know more of Christ? Then you have probably tasted of His sweetness. If you have no such desire, then may I suggest to you that you have not encountered the real Christ. The real Jesus is more beautiful, Holy, loving, kind, majestic and satisfying than you can ever imagine.

If you want to know more of His glory, taste more of His goodness, and experience more of His power, we invite you to journey with us in the book of John these next couple of months. In this book you will not only find the One who created the earth and sky…but the very One who created you and is pursuing your heart. May the eyes of your heart be enlightened that you may see His beauty and believe. May the wind of the Spirit blow in your direction and may you hear the whisper of the one who knit you together in your mother’s womb whispering in your ear
                                            “you
                                                    are
                                                           loved…”
